One of the most powerful pages on your blog is your About Me page. This is your chance to tell anyone who visits you why they need to follow you. It is a chance for you to put your best foot forward and sell yourself.
Sadly, too many bloggers overlook this important page and do not share enough. Or, worse yet, they do not even have one (GAH – the horror)!!!
The about me page is more than a picture of you and a couple of sentences about your site. It is more than saying “I love to talk about pink unicorns and fluffy pillows. You can email me here.” It really needs to sell you as someone who will trust you and will become that die-hard, loyal fan.
I get that it is tough to write about yourself. This was a challenge I faced as well. But, I worked my way through it and now, my About Me page tells a powerful story and gives new readers an opportunity to get to know me before they decide to follow my site.

1. Who is Your Reader?
Before you even start, you need to know who your reader is. All too often, bloggers start a site and don’t even know who they are trying to reach. If you don’t have an idea of the person you are writing for, why are you even writing?
Make sure you include details about who your site is for. That way, your readers instantly learn if what you are sharing is geared towards them.
I clearly state this in the content of my About Me page. I tell the reader who will benefit from what I share. There is no doubt what I talk about and who I am targeting to be my ultimate reader.
2. What Value Will You Provide?
Before your readers learn anything about you, tell them what they will get by following you. What is it you can do to help them? Some questions you should consider include:
- What will they learn from you? Tell them what they can expect to read when you post.
- Why should they listen to you? Why are you credible in what you share? Whether you are new and learning with them or an expert in your field, make sure you let your readers know. Remember there is nothing wrong with being a newbie, but make sure you let others know.
- Why should they follow you? Give them an enticing reason to follow you. It could be as simple as “if you are trying to find a way to manage your time, then you are on the right site.”
- Why are you here? Why do you blog? What are you hoping to accomplish by sharing your stories? The more personal you can be, the better you’re about me page will be.
3. Get Personal on Your About Page
Once your readers learn about your site and what you provide, they will want to learn even more — about you. Give them your background and get personal. Your readers want to know that they can trust what you have to say. That means you need to share why you know this topic.

One mistake I see so often is no way for readers to connect or follow. Include a link to your active Facebook group, or ask them to sign up for your newsletter. Do something to encourage action from them. Always leave them wanting to learn more. Ask them to sign up or follow you on social media. Tell them to do something so that they stay connected to you.
6. Give Them Helpful Information
Your about page should also provide value in showing people examples of what they can find on your site. Internal links are not only good for SEO health they can also help give the reader additional information. One of the easiest places to do this is in your about page.
Show the reader the type of help you are offering by putting links to some of your best content or the few that are the most helpful. When you provide them value from the start, they are more willing to stick around for more.
